Howdy folks.
I just learned about this community. My current daily driver is an '87 Mercedes 300E (with a whopping 64k miles on it). I also have a '72 Volvo 164E (manual trans).
I love the "fun to drive" aspect of old European and Japanese cars, as well as the aesthetics. I like the way the word "jetronic" rolls off my tongue. I like seeing a bunch of little boxes that say "Bosch" and "Made in Germany" piled up next to the recycle bin when it's tune up time.
For whatever reason, I can't imagine myself owning a front wheel drive car with cupholders. A used German car provides a fine way to avoid this.

I just found this community. I'm the proud owner of a 1969 MGB GT. Originally my uncle's car, he bought it new when living in California. Fast forward to about 1980--he was moving east, and could only take one vehicle. Dad flew out there, bought it, and drove it back. For the next 12 years, it served as a "backup" car, and was rarely driven. Sometime in 1992-93, the clutch went. Got that fixed, then the engine blew up. The car never had any work done to it, other than oil changes, and was completely knackered. It sat in a field behind a garage, until restoration was started in 1995. Progress went quickly--the entire car was stripped soon after its arrival. However, things stalled there...until I inherited the wreck in 2004. Since then, it's had some welding done, a new coat of Blaze Orange, new interior, and an engine rebuild. All that's left is to finish up the brakes.

A quick question. . . [15 Feb 2007|10:06am]

mrh745i
I'm in desperate need of rear tail light lenses for my 1987 560SL. My local shop can get them for me. . . for $270.00 EACH; and I wondered if anyone had any lying around that they would be willing to let go of for considerably less.

Heidi needs some new lenses. . .

Thanks, and happy motoring!

Well... hm. This community hasn't seen any updates, so meh. I'll give it a shot. I have recently sold my 1988 Toyota Celica GT-Four and picked up another car I've wanted for a while... a 1990 Acura Legend L Sedan. It's a five-speed, too! A little rusted out, but it runs pretty well, and the kicker is I only paid $400 for it. Needs a little work such as a new rad and exhaust, but those're coming in a few days. Later, all!

1989 Mazda MX-6 [05 Apr 2005|04:57pm]

I just joined this community so i figured i'd take some time to tell you all about my import.

I drive a 1989 Mazda MX-6 GT Turbo

Combined with the intelligence of RX-7 engineering and the functionality of the 626 Sedan, the MX-6 is a functional yet powerful 2-door coupe. Inside is a 2.2L Turbocharged, Intercooled mazda engine. Putting out 146 HP and 190 lbs of torque. Combined with a 5-speed manual transmission, stock spoiler, sunroof, stock body kit, and a electronic adjustable suspension, its a pretty nice ride.

One of Mazda's first vehicles to be manufactured in the US, but you can definately tell the parts are imported judging by the japaneese symbols all over the place.

Due to the purchasing of 25% of Mazda by Ford Motor Company in the mid 1980s, mazda began manufacturing parts for Ford vehicles, which is why some ford rangers have Mazda transmissions in them and the Ford Probe has almost the exact same drivetrain as the MX-6, although the Probe did not have the Turbo kit. I stand by the fact that my car is still import, the sticker on the door says "Manufactured by Mazda Motor Company of Japan" just it was built in the US.

By the way my Mazda has 247,000 Miles on it and its still going strong.

Be jealous.
I purchased it for $200 bucks.
Doesn't need a lot of work on it, except rear brakes, front left axel (well, cv joint and boot), the heater broke the other day (haha), needs a hood latch, and like.. tires.
Has 170,000 miles on it though.

silversilvia
anyone in here own a 914? there is one at a local vw shop for sale for $1,000. the interior is rough and the exterior is rough. the shop owner says it runs good, and he is well known in this area to be honest, i found this out from experience. i am considering to buy this car and other than the typical stuff i have never worked on them. i was to know the problematic areas on these cars so i can look out for when i go test drive it. sorry don't know what year or engine size.

Hey, I've got a bad 2nd gear synchro on my Celica GT-S. When I downshift into second it clunks a little, and I'm getting sick of shifting around it. How much is this going to set me back? Ballpark figures, of course.

new here. I have a 1980 toyota celica st w/ 5-speed manual, blue. I got the car for 400 bucks, with 62k orig. miles and only two previous owners. hell, its never been owned outside this postal code. it was a grandmas car and then my friends dad owned it for about six months before i bought it. its a blast to drive, even if it only has 90 horses at the flywheel. i've added a custom spoiler (off of a 91 geo storm) and a 79 supra grill, both yellow. it looks bitchin'. anyone else out there whose discovered just how fun these old toyotas are?

1975 Opel Manta [06 Feb 2005|03:13pm]

xrebel
Just bought a new car and am forced to part with my baby, she's a 1975 Opel Manta. Here's the ebay Auction. Even if you arent interested in buying anything, hardly anyone knows what an Opel is anymore, might be interesting for ya'all to check it out.

Here she is

Quick History, Opel is still a huge company over in Europe, Owned by GM who bought them after either WW1 or 2, can't remember which. Opel was imported here through Buick until 1975. They were just cheap little cars, but pretty fun and nice looking for the price.

enjoy
-Drew

argh!!!!

i drive a 1987 BMW 325. my car stereo got stolen a while ago and i need to replace it. they ripped it out and cracked the console and left just wires hanging all over the place. i don't know anything about getting a new car stereo put in or anything. last time my stereo was stolen, they just unplugged it, making it really easy for me just to get a new one.

so what do i need to do? i know i have to get some kind of plug or something to plug it into a new stereo, but i don't want to pay  somebody to install it for me. i think this is something i can do on my own. i've rewired guitars, amps, and other music-related stuff before, so i figure i can do this without killing myself or breaking my car.

so what all do i need? any help would be appreciated. thanks a lot!
